“Wildlife Remover”

Feb2024 The Wildlife Remover (WR) is a conceptual object that removes all wildlife in its proximity, but only when humans are close to it.

Through a series of unknown processes the WR makes sure no wildlife is in its close proximity, when it is activated. Activation comes through any human approach.

The inspiration for the piece came through think king of clever ways to showcase or envision a world where there are no wildlife present. The irony of the project is, why make an object at all, that mimics what humans are already doing to nature and wildlife.

Because in reality, the WR does not consist of intricate machinery, but it is rather an empty box. The real wildlife remover is actually the audience itself. (In some cases we have even filled the box with seeds and nuts, to actually attract wildlife and enhance the effect.)

Through this litte game, the WR flips the narrative of the oppressor (read: “The bad guy who removes all this beautiful wildlife”)over on the audience, thus requiring moments of reflection regarding their own presence and influence on wildlife. WR becomes a self fulfilling profecy, by claiming to perform a task that is already being performed by the audience.

Advanced technology is already being used in different areas to remove wildlife. (Examples being use of ultrasound to keep bird from airports).

The aim of the installation/Scultpture is to nurture critical thinking about ones own impact and influence over wildlife.
